Vampire Research Lead By Lonewolf

This is not a joke!

What have we found?

Lonewolf: Half Human Half Vampire hybred.  (Yes, that means I am a Daywalker)

 Trutv.com:

I know a bit about “bite-parties” and there are willing “victims”. The first man seems as though he may have had some type of vampire about him. The term “prey is prey” decided that. The couple was nothing but two fools whom believed they were turned to vampires by Satan. Satan would have no need of vampires, and vampires have no need of Satan.

Paranormal.lovetoknow.com:

There are many “clubs” or “cults” that dedicate themselves to vampires and such. It seems, to me, that most of the sightings are simply of the cult or club members. Though they have the right idea about the feeling one would get when close to a vampire I don’t believe they fully grasp the meaning of an encounter. From what I have learned a real, or high thought of, vampire would only see a human as prey such as the same way a wolf would see a rabbit. The aura a vampire has is one of many layers. A charming outer layer in which would attract the prey- a soft, gentle aura as to cause no alarm- the aura changes into what a vampire is really after: a meal or in this case it would be one of a predator.

Paranormaldatabase.com:

The many wolves, though I was looking for vampires, caught my attention. These “wolves” are all, mostly, Black Dogs. Such creatures are said to rise from the corpse, usually ashes, of that of a Witch, Vampire, and any other being that would use aura, chakra, or any type of supernatural energy. I found that to be interesting. I can send you some more information on Black Dogs if you wish. Anyway…the vampire attacks within the woods or other secluded areas seem strange. Vampires would mostly flock cities where it is easy to hunt unnoticed, for the most part, and many places to dispose of or hide a body. Also within cities there is an increase in homeless and runaways, food that wouldn’t be missed or noticed easily. No one would call in if a homeless man or woman disappeared. Also, as I have read before, some if not most vampires prefer to rid the earth of “scum” or “low-life”. A prostitute, drug dealer and others of the sort, are found in larger numbers within busy cities.

Recent Vampire attacks in New Orleans

Posted on June 28, 2013 by lynglyngibsonauthor

New Orleans has a history and reputation for many things Vampire.  At the heart of it all is the French Quarter which has seen its share of Vampire incidents since becoming home to Jacques de saint Germain hundreds of years ago.  As a matter of fact, many other members of the Vampire elite society have and still do find haven in New Orleans. Though it is a known fact to all locals, very little documentation may be found as we whisper the details of current activity only amongst ourselves.

The French Quarter has been haven to many Vampires throughout history.  A perfect setting as the area has always had a high rate of murder and missing persons.  The living are drawn to the area by its mystery and charm, eager to experience an encounter with the undead.  Few are lucky enough to return with their experiences, most have vanished without a trace leaving only a trail of whispered accounts amongst the locals.

One such example of a recent case happened in 1984.  Though, once again little documentation can be found (not surprising as many paranormal incidents are hidden from plain sight by New Orleans officials) the locals are very well aware of the incident.

Nine people were found in and about the French Quarter area, all having had their throats ripped out.  Paramedics and other first responders were dumbfounded as that though the scenes were gory; there was no blood to mention.  The case resembled an earlier occurrence where in 1933 two known prostitutes met the same demise.  A witness that lived above the scene said that he heard screams, as he ran to his balcony he saw a tall dark figure leaning over the victim.  The dark figure was reported to have lept over a 12 foot wall at the end of the alley and disappeared with no trace.  The violence of both of the attacks would have left signs of a struggle and the bodies should have bled out.  But they did not; in fact the bodies in both cases were drained completely.  The cases remain unsolved to this day but the locals know the truth.  In the mid-eighties a rogue vampire moved into the area making his home on Royal Street, near to where St. Germain called home in the early 1900’s.  This Rogue vampire had caused so much turmoil in his brief stint in the city that New Orleans officials had begun to pressure the known vampire elders in the community, who did not appreciate the invasion of their privacy.  Forced by the attention and suspicion that was cast upon them, the elders gathered and met in reference to the rogue vampire, all agreed that he should be eliminated.  And so it was, the rash of vampire attacks ended as quickly as it had begun.

Now, everyone knows that it is against nature for vampire to kill vampire, however in this instance the greater good prevailed.  It is said that the slain trouble-maker was ripped apart by the elders during an ancient ritual, which no living man has ever witnessed.  After the ceremony the remains of the vampire were placed in a crypt at a nearby cemetery.  It is said by the locals that his screams and moans can be heard through the thick marble walls of the vault to this day.

The Top Five Most Likely Places To Find Vampires in the United States

In choosing their abodes, vampires prefer secluded, secure spots near large areas of human population. Here are five places in the United States where you very well might find vampires living today. Disclaimer: This site is not responsible for anything that might happen if you visit these spots.

North Brother Island, New York City

Located in the East River just off the southeast end of the Bronx, North Brother Island is thought to be home to one of New York City's last remaining vampire packs.

The island has housed various facilities over the years, including a hospital and a drug rehabilitation center. Typhoid Mary, a cook who spread typhoid fever to more than 50 people in New York City, was quarantined here from 1915 until her death in 1938. The island has been abandoned since the 1960s.  In 1974, the FVZA dispersed a pack of vampires that was using the city's subway tunnels to attack people. Three of the pack members commandeered a boat and escaped on the East River. The boat was discovered the next day floating near North Brother Island. There was speculation that the vamps had taken shelter on the island, but by then the FVZA was in its last days and no raid ever took place.  North Brother Island features a number of large, abandoned structures that make it a perfect spot for a vampire pack looking to lay low until conditions improve. And if those vampires should desire to start hunting again, the large populations of Manhattan, the Bronx and Brooklyn are only a short boat ride away.  Urban explorers have reported seeing signs of habitation on the island. If the FVZA is ever reconstituted, this is one of the first places that they should sweep.

Sunset Strip, Los Angeles

The Sunset Strip—the mile-and-a-half stretch of Sunset Boulevard in West Hollywood—wasn't always a hotbed for vampirism. At the start of the 20th century, the Strip was nothing more than a swath of avocado groves. But a combination of zoning laws and population growth made the Strip increasingly attractive to restaurateurs and nightclub operators. And where there is nightlife, there are vampires.  Vampires found lots to love about the Strip, especially after rock and roll venues like the Whiskey a Go Go, the Rainbow Bar and Grille and the Roxy arrived in the 1960s and 70s. There was a steady supply of fresh blood among the would-be musicians and groupies, many of them runaways from other parts of the country. The nocturnal life of rock and rollers was perfect for a vampire's schedule. And the vampires' gaunt physiques, pale skin and sunglasses fit right in with L.A.'s nightcrawlers. The story of Wanda Schiffler is but one prominent example of the convergence of rock and roll and vampirism along Sunset Boulevard.  Besides plenty of fresh blood, Hollywood supplied vampires with an assortment of moneyed individuals willing to provide them with shelter in return for a promise of immortality. Clever vampires wormed their way into the inner circles of potential "sponsors"— wealthy, aging individuals with mansions and hedonistic lifestyles. European and Arab heirs and heiresses were a favorite target.

Even vampires that didn't find sponsors had plenty of places to hide in the Los Angeles basin. They squatted in unoccupied mansions, holed up in corners of vast warehouses, and even set up shop in tunnels left over by the Pacific Electric Railway.

Today's atmosphere of vampire glorification creates a fertile environment for a rebirth of the undead along Sunset Strip.

New Orleans Cemeteries

New Orleans' high water table made it an inhospitable climate for in-ground burials. Graves would fill with water as they were being dug, and caskets buried in the ground frequently floated up and away during periods of heavy rain. To curb this problem, the city's leaders began requiring interments in above-ground crypts. Cemeteries like St. Louis #1 and #2 and St. Roch's became crowded with tombs resembling small homes and featuring intricate ironwork, crosses, urns and statuary.  It's not certain exactly when vampires began inhabiting New Orleans' cemeteries, but they certainly were a presence in the city proper from its earliest days. The FVZA office in New Orleans was always one of the busiest in the nation. In 1957, an FVZA surveillance team came upon a pack of vampires attacking a tourist in the city's popular French Quarter. Agents pursued the vampires into St. Louis Cemetery #1, but lost them among the crypts and narrow alleyways.  The next day, agents conducted a sweep of the cemetery and found the enterprising pack holed up in one of the larger crypts. The agents destroyed the pack, and then located and destroyed two other packs in the cemetery.

Unfortunately, the assault, which damaged several crypts and memorials, prompted an outcry from the public, and city leaders decided to enact an ordinance prohibiting the FVZA from conducting operations inside cemeteries. The ordinance made it impossible for the FVZA to perform sweeps of the city's other cemeteries.  It's quite possible—likely, even—that vampires have been using New Orleans' cemeteries as a base for nightly excursions to the French Quarter, where they are sure to find plenty of drunken tourists stumbling about. Consequently, New Orleans is unlikely to lose its reputation as the Vampire Capital of America anytime soon.

The Caves of St. Louis, Missouri

The limestone bedrock that supports the city of St. Louis is home to more than 125 caves, mostly in the area south of downtown. This cave network served a variety of functions through the city's life. In the days before the Civil War, the caves were an important stop for slaves on the Underground Railroad. The city's brewers often used them to store beer.

The caves also had a darker role in St. Louis's history: as hiding places for vampires.

Vampires began using the caves in the 18th century during the early days of French settlement. Over time, the bloodsuckers created comfortable underground dwellings, with well protected entrances and exits. They stationed sentries to provide ample warning in case anyone approached. At night, they would leave the caves via hidden exits near the river and hunt for blood in busy areas of the city like Laclede's Landing and Lafayette Square.

The FVZA conducted missions into the caves throughout the 20th century. It was difficult, dangerous work, as the vampire packs often booby-trapped cave entrances and exits. During one mission in 1956, four agents were killed when vampires triggered an explosion in a narrow passageway. In the aftermath of the disaster, the agency decided to scale back operations inside the caves and instead focus on trying to restrict the movements of the vampires. Engineers sealed off cave entrances and exits, and FVZA shadows conducted nighttime undercover operations in popular vampire hunting areas.  Reports of vampire attacks in Saint Louis dropped through the 1960s and 70s. However, it's probable that many vampires hiding out in the caves had entered a dormant phase during that time. Now, with no FVZA in the way, they're very likely to be on the verge of recommencing their activities.

Downtown Detroit

Take a plethora of abandoned buildings. Add a large homeless population. Mix together, and—presto!—you have yourself the ideal setting for a vampire outbreak.  Detroit's downtown area has long had its share of vampires, but the area really became active in the 1970s, when the auto industry fell into decline with the Arab oil embargo and the rise of the Japanese car makers. Vampires were able to prey upon the homeless during the nighttime hours and then hide away during the day in one of the many abandoned homes in the city's once grand Brush Park area. The feeding opportunities were so plentiful that some vampire packs became sloppy. In 1973, FVZA agents broke into the basement of a Brush Park home and encountered the hellish sight of dozens of bloodless, dismembered corpses heaped in the corner.  When the FVZA was disbanded in 1975, Detroit was at the top of the list for likely outbreak locations in the United States.  The economic situation in Detroit has deteriorated further in the ensuing decades, and economic hardships always raise the risk of a vampirism outbreak. Vampires can prey on the homeless for years without being noticed.  Detroit's downtown area also is home to a number of commercial buildings that are abandoned or rarely used and could serve as a base for vampiric operations.  (As I had said before, homeless + crowded city + a close place of seclusion = Vampire) I thought it was interesting, with is why I added it.)

In the 18th and 19th century the true hunters of vampires were highly intelligent people. The vampire hunters at one point had sought assistance and guidance from people who were equally educated. In the late 19th to early 20th century the people feared that they had become surrounded by witches, werewolves, and worst of all the Vampire. It was once believed that only the True Believers in the vampire were strong enough to face the vampire. Thus most hunters were members of the clergy. In today's society vampire's are very much part of our culture.

The five keys of a hunter:

1. Intelligence
2. Wide Education
3. Spiritual Conviction
4. An Iron Will
5.Empathy

www.vampiresvillage.com

Common belief is that vampires are undead. The above mentioned site informs us that vampires are neither dead nor undead. The vampire is NOT a shape-shifter. The primary causes of vampirism is one of three things:

1. a genetic imbalance caused by being bitten by an infected vampire
2. physiological change of the enzymes in the human blood stream
3. vampirism IS a retroviruses that totally changes a person from a human to a vampire.

The thirst is caused by a biological need for blood. Other wise they will avoid the human race as much as possible. The vampire is immune to the blood diseases that humans are at risk for. They are not immortal however they do have longer lives. They are unpredictable killers who are extremely strong and should not be underestimated. They are highly intelligent beings.

According to some legends, a vampire may engage in sex with his former wife, which often led to pregnancy. In fact, this belief may have provided a convenient explanation as to why a widow, who was supposed to be celibate, became pregnant. The resulting child was called a gloglave (pl. glog) in Bulgarian or vampirdzii in Turkish. Rather than being ostracized, the child was considered a hero who had powers to slay a vampire. Before Christianity, methods of repelling vampires included garlic, hawthorn branches, rowan trees (later used to make crosses), scattering of seeds, fire, decapitation with a gravedigger’s spade, salt (associated with preservation and purity), iron, bells, a rooster’s crow, peppermint, running water, and burying a suspected vampire at a crossroads. It was also not unusual for a corpse to be buried face down so it would dig down the wrong way and become lost in the earth.

Vampire Hunters:

Dhampir:
A half vampire, half human said to have all of the vampires strengths and none of their weaknesses.

Djadadjii:
A Bulgarian vampire hunter who bottles vampires.

Vampire Slayer:
A human vampire hunter.

How to Detect Vampires:
Some ways to detect a living vampire are fangs, red eyes, a tail, long nails, has really bad breath, no appetite, paleness, cold skin, hairy palms, has no shadow or reflection in a mirror, unable to enter a house without invitation, aversion to bright lights or fire, has quiet footsteps, possesses remarkable strength (though not always the case), extensive knowledge about botany, a large collection of soil in a house or in the vicinity, deemed evil by others, strange clothing habits, are considered an outcast, emits unusually large sexual appeal, friends and family of them frequently die, and they rarely, if ever, discuss religion.

How to Kill Vampires:
The only good vampire is a dead vampire. Drive an aspen, hawthorn, ash or silver stake through it’s heart, shoot it with a silver bullet, decapitation, pour boiling water, oil or holy water into the grave and cremate the corpse, pour the ashes into water and drink it.

In most societies that have believed in vampirism, the process of detecting and destroying the vampire has often been carried out by an informal group of people threatened by the presence of vampires in their community, but occasionally has been placed in the hands of a specialized vampire hunter.

A dhampir could become a professional or semiprofessional vampire hunter and charge a village for his services.

Vampires are largely urban dwellers, and currently each major city supports a vampire community.  Vampires no longer breathe, although they can fake respiration. The heart no longer beats, the blood consumed spreads through the body by osmosis rather than through the old artery/vein system. It carries the necessary oxygen. The vampire heals quickly of most wounds. The stake produces a form of paralysis.

vampire attacks swept through the African country of Malawi during late 2002 and early 2003 Vampires are immune to most diseases and invincible to mortal weapons, but they became vulnerable during the day or when they are resting in their coffins.  A vampire has the ability to control several animals such as the wolf, the rat, the fox, the owl, the bat and the moth and they are also capable of taking the form of a wolf or a bat and possibly any of the other animals subject to his command.  The sunlight will also burn them to ash if they continue to stay in view of the sun for a short period of time.

www.earthspirit.com/fireheart/fhvampire.html

To live with, love, or befriend a real vampire is to encounter a set of problems which may demand expanding the boundaries of one's accepted reality. To come to terms with being a real vampire oneself is to face a lifetime's karmic challenge.  But beyond and behind all the folklore, the psychological theories, the role playing, even the traditional spiritual assumptions, lies the real truth about vampires.  These people appear on the surface to be somewhat eccentric members of society, yet their outward idiosyncrasies only hint at how different they are from those around them.  A vampire is a person born with an extraordinary capacity to absorb, channel, transform, and manipulate "pranic energy" or life force.

Real vampires do not necessarily drink blood-in fact, most of them do not. The victims slowly decline and waste away, and the survivors assume that some evil fiend is draining them of blood. They know that the Bible says, "the blood is the life", and anyone who was losing their life force must be losing blood. Yet, in many instances the vampire's "attack" does not even involve physical contact.  Human beings have practiced blood-drinking for many reasons throughout history, but drinking blood alone does not indicate that a person is a vampire.  This is the mechanism that causes real vampires to inflict harm on others and themselves if they fail to recognize what is happening and do conscious work on transforming their inner natures. Vampires are no more likely to be either malicious or spiritually aware than the general population, but without awareness, they can spend their lives making themselves and others unhappy, and will continue to incarnate in this pattern until they take action to change it.  Real vampires are identifiable partly because they have a majority of the symptoms, not just one or two.

1. Physically, vampires are usually "night people"" on a biochemical level.

2. They have difficulty adjusting to daytime schedules and frequently work nights.

3. They tend to be photosensitive, avoiding sunlight, sunburning easily, and having excellent

   night vision.

4. Their vitality ranges widely, and they can be vigorous and active one day, depressed and

   languorous the next.

5. They frequently have digestive trouble.

6. Contrary to the image of the vampire as thin, many real vampires are troubled by obesity

because of a hunger that makes them food addicts, and a system that is sluggish in

   processing physical food.

7. They are also sometimes troubled by other substance addictions for the same reasons, but

since their systems are tuned to pranic energy more than to processing physical substance,

they may not be as sensitive to drugs and alcohol as an ordinary person would be.

8. Emotionally and physically, vampires are unpredictable, moody, temperamental and

   overwhelming.

9. The major distinguishing characteristic of real vampires as opposed to ordinary people

who share those qualities is the vampire's intensity.

Vampires are commonly loners, in part because they feel so different from those around them, but also because they have a need to control the degree of contact they have with sources of energy.  Real vampires are not the demonic fiends of Christianized folklore, but as long as they refuse to accept their inner nature, their bad reputation is not undeserved.  Many vampires are attracted to magickal paths.  Because of this, many of the vampire characteristics described above are far less evident in the most powerful vampires, the ones who have done considerable work on their inner selves.  Unfortunately, unconscious vampires are far more common than evolved ones, and it is these troubled souls who more usually appear in magickal groups.  Terror of discovery (followed by ridicule or rejection) inhibits the self-development of many real vampires.  If real vampires are not the immortals of fiction, they can at least be confident of one thing: for better or worse, they will keep the qualities they develop for many lives to come.

http://www.atlantavampirealliance.com/educational/demystification.html

A vampire is essentially an energy feeder or blood drinker that may display various levels of psychic ability. Without feeding the vampire will become lethargic, sickly, depressed, and often go through physical suffering or discomfort. Sanguinarian vampires can vary in their experience of blood hunger and in how often or in what quantities they need to feed, but the unique craving for blood and the physical symptoms associated with neglecting to drink blood are unifying features of sanguinarian vampirism. Not all members of the vampire community actually acknowledge the difference between psychic and sanguinarian vampirism, and there is a popular but not universally-held theory within the vampire community that the life force energy or "prana" contained within the blood is the source from which they feed, rather than any physical component of the blood itself.

Here are some thoughts.

As a visual indicator of the vampire condition, fangs have advantages over most other possible symbols. For one thing, they are, for lack of a better word, 'innate'. A vampire can have fangs without turning into a bat, being swathed in a cape, or wearing an ankh or medallion. And despite their lack of folkloric attestation, fangs for a vampire make intuitive sense. If you're going to drink blood, you've got to get it somehow; what more reasonable than to pierce the skin with something sharp ... like a tooth? Like, in point (ouch!) of fact, a fang?  Fangs give the vampire's appearance an unhuman touch more understated than almost any other animal-like trait could. The fanged vampire is visually a human-animal hybrid, his or her face a human facade that can, in a flash, reveal the gleaming weapons of a beast. And this animal connection may well add to the vampire's appeal, for fangs suggest the strength of the lion, the fierceness of the wolf, the speed of the striking snake. Yet for all their connotations, fangs -- elongated canines -- have an elegant simplicity, a grace that smooths over the raw animal power they represent. A few works of fiction (most notably The Vampire Tapestry by Suzy McKee Charnas) and some lore give the vampire a tongue- prick, but its folkloric authenticity can't compete with the aesthetic appeal of the fang. Fangs in a vampire's mouth necessarily have phallic overtones, but they lack the penis-like grotesqueness of a pointed or barb-bearing tongue. It's difficult to associate a thrusting tongue with any socially acceptable behavior. Fangs, however, suggest biting, an act that can be performed in public (at least while eating). Although not explicitly sexual, biting retains strong sexual and pre-sexual overtones related to both power and pleasure. Biting with fangs can be considered a sublimated form of sexual intercourse, even of rape. However, the mouth is not merely an erogenous zone: it is the part of the body that we consciously control literally from day one. In Freudian terms, it is associated with the earliest stage of development (oral): oral stimuli, and oral acts, can yield satisfaction at a level even more profound than the purely sexual. Thus biting, the most visceral form of oral aggression, appeals to us at the deepest instinctual level. The tot who wants a Halloween costume with vampire fangs recognizes this, even though he (or she) can't articulate the appeal of those pointy teeth. Phallic interpretations notwithstanding, it may be that their location -- the mouth -- accounts more for their charisma than do the fangs themselves. Whether we fear vampires or identify with them, their fangs intensify our focus on the mouth, whether as an erogenous zone or an instrument of aggression -- or both.  Framed by the snarling lips of a fiend or underlying the kiss of a demon lover, fangs are more than a marketing gimmick (though they certainly are that). They are the steel beneath the velvet, strength and speed, pain and delight, the promise of devouring or being devoured -- all rolled into a snippet of dental enamel. Rather than question why the vampire's fangs appeal to us, perhaps we should ask: how can they not?  How indeed?

Pale Skin

The origin of vampires is a mystery. No one knows how, when and where their origin was. There are many stories regarding the vampires but no one knows which one is true and which one to believe. There are cases that vampires do live among humans.  The most basic things to identify a vampire between humans is that they usually have a pale skin.Humans can’t digest blood let alone get color from it, real vampires do.  They prefer things like raw or bloody meats, but will also eat cooked protein-food or even... normal foods. However, if you see them specifically avoiding garlic (it makes them ill) or feasting on the blood of the innocent. One such legend of vampires in Asia is given below. Legends of female vampire-like beings who can detach parts of their upper body also occur in the Philippines, Malaysia and Indonesia. There are two main vampire-like creatures in the Philippines: the Tagalog mandurugo ("blood-sucker") and the Visayan manananggal ("self-segmenter"). The mandurugo is a variety of the aswang that takes the form of an attractive girl by day, and develops wings and a long, hollow, thread-like tongue by night. The tongue is used to suck up blood from a sleeping victim. The manananggal is described as being an older, beautiful woman capable of severing its upper torso in order to fly into the night with huge bat-like wings and prey on unsuspecting, sleeping pregnant women in their homes. They use an elongated proboscis-like tongue to suck fetuses from these pregnant women. They also prefer to eat entrails (specifically the heart and the liver) and the phlegm of sick people. The ways u can destroy a vampire:

1) Put a stake of wood or metal has to be driven through a vampire's heart, as well as as

   pinning it to the ground.
2) Exposure to direct sunlight will destroy a vampire, but it is a very painful death.
3) Like the crucifix, holy water is powerful because of the user's faith and belief in Jesus

Christ. Holy water is just plain water that has been blessed by a religious holy man. When

holy water is cast onto the vampires skin it burns like acid leaving burns and causing

   extreme pain.
4) This will also kill a vampire, but tit must be burned down to absolute dust. If not, then the

creature can replenish itself with the right amount of blood. It is a slow and agonizing

   process.

The truth of the vampire is simple. They are real and they are among us. I know that there are some people who would gladly dismiss the idea of their existence, however, they are unable to explain why a website so full of information on them suddenly changes after one question. I find that disturbing. The vampire has been, until now, successful in making humans believe that they do not exist. Once I am able to do my research on them I will know more until then I believe that they are out there and that they do not want us to know about them. This way they can continue walking among us without our knowledge. I know that vampires do exist for the simple reason that I had inquired about them to one who runs the website ‘Vampires.com’. After his response he had totally changed the website. If I was not on the right track then, why did the website change?

The term Dhampir refers to the offspring of a vampire and a human mate, traditionally a male vampire mating with a human female.  The dhampir was thought to have special qualities. He could sense where vampires hid themselves from the world, and therefore he had the ability to be a superb vampire hunter. These qualities would be passed down genetically to his offspring, and it was thought to last many generations.

The Origins Of The Dhampir

Contrary to popular belief, the dhampir is not a fictional character created solely by the entertainment industry, mainly in the video game and anime spectrum. Oh, and of course the Wesley Snipes version of Blade I, II, and III. No, the Hollywood sex-selling dhampirs are a little bit different from those who, according to Balkan legends, stalked the night, preying on other undead. Dhampirs’ first historic appearance was in the Balkan society, centuries ago, among the Roma people. In other areas of the region, there were different names, such as “vampirović, vampijerović, vampirić,” or the Bosnian “lampijerović” which translated literally to “vampire’s son.” It was believed among the Balkan people that male vampires had a great sexual desire for female women. This is reflective of modern folklore as well. All vampires, whether in fiction or lore have always seemed to exude seduction over women, and the female undead do the same for men. The procreative ability between the two however, is not as easily believed. The main reason of course being, if one party is dead, how can it either produce living sperm to fertilize the embryo, or, how can the female vampire’s embryo be alive enough to be fertilised? This was the process of creating the dhampir; the offspring of human and vampire.

The scientific aspect of the impossible did not occur to the Balkans, and honestly, it shouldn’t really matter in the first place. If one has to argue the semantics of a vampire-human spawn, then one has to also argue the semantics of a walking corpse. But in Balkan society, the exact science of procreation was more or less yet unknown, as were the many mysteries of biology that so many take for granted today. Vampiric men and women had sexual desires for the living, and it is not irrational to believe that many of these men and women were those they were attracted to while living. In one case recorded in history, a Serbian widow was discovered pregnant, and in her defense, she named her late husband the father; claiming he was a vampire. Other sources say that Serbian men would often pretend to be vampires in order to attract or seduce the women they desired. In other legends, a vampire may awaken, and move to a village where he is unknown, marry, and create a family there.

The sexually promiscuous or at lease, sexually active vampire was never just a thing of fan-fiction and Hollywood. Western Europe produced sensual stories of vampires, along with the horrific. However it was the Eastern European population, namely South Slavic that carried the sexual vampire beliefs, whereas Northern Slavs did not. It was a peculiar legend to have, although they were not quite alone; Belarusian folklore and vampire belief also had similar tales concerning vampiric procreation.

The Features And Characteristics Of The Dhampir

Because of the remarkable terms of conception, the dhampir has been enabled throughout legend to have skills that are beyond the realms of both human and vampire abilities. However, the birth of the dhampir, and the way he or she looked, were incredibly dissimilar with anything that Hollywood or the gaming industry has produced so far. While a vampire female, or a male vampire may be seductive, and attractive, the offspring of a human and vampire union was most certainly the exact opposite. Forget Wesley Snipes, and the pixilated curves of Rayne; we’re talking full-on ugly here.

Because of the vampire’s ability to seduce the living, at least in South Slavic and Belarusian legend, historically speaking, one must assume that a vampire either was attractive, or could at least appear attractive in order to entice its prey. So why should the offspring be so hideous? Well, naturally, such a union with a demonic or undead creature is found to be against nature’s intentions. So there would be a defective child born from the two. Such defects are found to be either of advantage and disadvantage. A vampire traditionally has a large amount of strength, can turn invisible, transform into other beasts, feeds off of human blood, seduce its prey to easily overcome an attack or to feed. It also has weaknesses to holy water, or other Christian religious symbols, as well as a volatile allergy to daylight.

The disadvantages of the dhampir are its hideousness, aside from its half-vampire form. According to folklore, a dhampir was said to be extremely filthy, and had facial deformities. The deformities were that he had either a snub nose, like a bat, or worse, no nose at all, according to Bulgarian legends. In Serbian tales, the dhampir had an oversized head, and a small, with no shadow. Other Bulgarian myths say that the dhampir has no bones, such with their belief that neither did their vampire fathers or mothers, no fingernails, and also a deep mark on their back, as though they were missing a tail.

The South Slavic and Belarusian dhampir, instead has none of the disadvantages of their vampire father or mother, and instead has all of their strengths. Modern folklore perpetuates the belief that a dhampir must also feed from human blood to sustain its existence. However, because dhampir are also traditionally hunters of vampires, one assumes that the dhampir instead fed from animals, or other legitimate sources rather than murder or prey on humans. Naturally, hunting vampires would become fairly irrelevant if a dhampir only made more every time it got hungry.

The Dhampir Vampire Hunters

The same culture that spawned the dhampir legends, those of the Balkans, as well as others, are also firm believers that they were capable of destroying vampires as well. Why would the dhampir be only interested in killing vampires? Naturally, for revenge, for their mothers, who were usually raped or seduced into the union with the vampire. Or in feeling remorse for their human side, who are prey for the vampire side of them, which comes from the father. Other reasons for revenge could be for their appearance; dhampirs in folklore were not known for their good looks. Actually quite the opposite. Bulgarian legends recognize dhampir as being hideous, deformed creatures.

The dhampir were also said to have the incredible powers of seeing vampires, even if invisible. Also, speed, agility, and strength, which made them more than equipped to kill vampires. The methods the dhampir would use could range anywhere from driving a wooden stake through its heart, shooting it, or performing a specific ritual over the grave of the vampire. The dhampir would touch lead crowns to the grave, and this would vanquish the evil spirit that inhabited the corpse.

“Performers” better known as fakes and liars, used to travel the Carpathian mountains, and “sniff out” vampires in a village. They’d check for recent death, or attribute a village or town’s bad luck or illnesses to the presence of a vampire. These self-appointed dhampir vampire hunters would then profess to being able to see an invisible vampire. After they had instilled fear and suspicion among the villagers, they would then profess to have the power to command a vampire to leave, or take other actions, such as driving a hawthorn stake through a corpse’s heart whom they claimed was the vampire. The main reason for this is that dhampir were always paid well for their services, of course.

The Daywalkers: Dhampir And Powerful Vampires

One of the most popular beliefs about the dhampir is that they are born with an immunity to sunlight, which according to vampire lore, is fatal to most of their species. This is actually a media born rule, according to some sources, direct sunlight as being fatal to vampires in historic lore was not widely believed. Daylight causing injury or death to a vampire was supposedly a piece of legend spread by the film ‘Nosferatu’, in which Graf Orlock is dissolved by the sun. The “daywalker” term was coined by Marvel in their Blade comics, and then widely spread with the films.

Dhampir, whether the sun was or was not a lethal force to vampires, may walk in sunlight. Also, many other powerful vampires are also able to walk in the day in the media or popular literature. As an example, the lead character, Count Kinkell from Tsukuyomi is able to walk in daylight, because he bends shadows and light around himself. The daywalker term does not specifically only apply to dhampir, as well because not all dhampir were able to walk in daylight; at least in fiction. Other sources say that dhampir can be born instead with all of the weakness of a vampire, and none of its strengths.
